The four dimensions
Effective men's leadership development addresses: the body (somatic regulation, presence, the physical capacity to be grounded under pressure); the shadow (the unconscious material that drives dysfunctional behavior from below); relationships (the relational patterns that determine how the leader impacts and connects with others); and purpose (the deep question of what the leadership is in service of, beyond organizational function).
John Wineland's Embodied Men's Leadership Training is the most comprehensive program in this directory that explicitly works across all four dimensions. His six-month program develops somatic presence, relational authenticity, shadow awareness, and purpose alignment simultaneously — recognizing that change in one dimension without the others tends not to hold.
The ManTalks framework, while not exclusively focused on leadership, addresses the same dimensions in the context of men's overall development — which is, for men in leadership positions, also leadership development.
Common Questions
How do I know if I need this or just standard executive coaching?
Standard executive coaching is appropriate for professional skill development, strategic challenges, and organizational performance. If the limiting factors in your leadership are interior — the patterns, the shadow, the body, the purpose — you need something that addresses those dimensions. Most executive coaches do not.
